Why You Should be Careful Buying Supplements on Amazon

When it comes to supplements, where you buy them matters just as much as what you buy.

In a recent mini educational video, MaxGen Labs educator Debi Bryk shared several important reasons why purchasing supplements through large online marketplaces like Amazon may not always be the safest option.

“Did you know that many warehouse facilities are not climate controlled?” Debi explains. “Supplements can be exposed to extreme temperatures, which can affect their strength and effectiveness.”

This is especially important for sensitive formulas such as liposomal supplements or products containing oils used to enhance absorption. Excessive heat and improper storage conditions may lead to oxidation, degradation, and reduced product quality over time.

“If a supplement becomes oxidized, it’s not just ineffective — it can actually become inflammatory,” says Debi. “That increases the risk of cellular damage, which is the exact opposite of why you were taking the supplement in the first place.”

Another concern is inventory mixing. Amazon warehouses often combine products from multiple third-party sellers under the same listing to streamline shipping logistics. As a result, consumers may not always receive products directly from the original manufacturer or authorized distributor.

“This increases the risk of getting counterfeit or knockoff supplements from different sellers,” Debi adds. “You don’t always know what company you’re actually purchasing from.”

So what’s the better option?

Whenever possible, purchase supplements:

  • Directly from your healthcare practitioner
  • From the manufacturer’s official website
  • Through trusted professional dispensaries

We recommend reputable practitioner-grade dispensaries like WholeScripts or Fullscript, which prioritize product integrity, authorized sourcing, and proper handling practices.

Your supplements should support your health — not compromise it.
