FAQs

Questions about our tests:

How are the tests performed?

Our genetic tests are simple cheek swabs that can be used for persons of any age, including babies and the elderly.

Do you have an instructional video on how to perform the test? Yes, please click this link.

If I am breastfeeding my baby, can I still perform the cheek swab on him/her?

Yes. The mixing of genetic data from mother to child via breast milk is not an issue for our test. Simply wait about 30 minutes after feeding and/or rinse the baby's mouth with water.

My child has a medical condition. Will this test help me understand their issues?

This test should not be used as the ultimate guide for any medical condition. It should be used in relation to biochemical function, methylation, detoxification, and vitamin deficiency risk. It is one piece of the large healthcare puzzle. Please work with a provider of some kind if you or your child are dealing with a medical condition.

How long will it take to receive my test results?

Reports are generally delivered approximately 3 weeks after receiving your sample. At times, it may take up to 5 weeks if a sample needs to be rerun in the lab. Realistically, there are times where the lab gets backed up with samples, especially around holidays. Our team will let you know if a report is going to be delayed. Most genetic testing companies take 8 weeks or more to report results, so we try to aim for a faster turn-around time.

Do you test for ancestry genes?

No. We are purely focused on genetic information that will help you optimize your health.

Can you tell which diseases I will get in my lifetime?

No. Genetic information is only one aspect of health. We are not running data to diagnose, treat, or cure disease. We are running data for educational purposes only. Your genes are your blueprint for cellular processes, but your lifestyle plays the biggest role in your health outcome. We do not test for disease risk genes.

What SNPs are tested?

Please see the detailed information about each test under their description.

Do you sequence the entire genome?

No. The majority of SNPs do not affect how the body functions. We run specific SNPs that are clinically relevant for most functional medicine providers. We do not sequence rare genetic disorders, ancestry, or SNPs that have little research. This test should not be used for medical conditions or drug interactions. Please consult a medical geneticist for those concerns.

What if I can't understand my report?

We always recommend working with a functional medicine provider that can help you understand your report. We only report the scientific understanding of each SNP per peer reviewed literature. We do offer test reviews that may be purchased as well. Write an email to our help desk for further information - help@maxgenlabs.com.

Can I get my raw data file, too?

No. We do not catalog the data in a zip file like other companies. It's simply an excel sheet with rsid/alleles and will not work with other interpretation software. We report it for you so that you don't have to use 3rd party software. You can see each SNP and allele at the end of your reports.

Will my DNA truly be destroyed?

Yes, absolutely. Our lab is concerned about your privacy. We take great lengths to destroy dna as soon as your report is complete. We don’t want to know your ancestry or provide 3rd party companies with “research.” Please keep in mind that this means we will not be able to update reports or resend reports months after your original report has been sent to you.

Can I use my HSA/FSA card to purchase the test?

Yes, but our e-commerce store does not allow for it. We can manually process payment for these cards. Please email help@maxgenlabs.com for assistance.

Can I get reimbursed by my insurance company?

We do not participate in insurance, nor do we supply you with receipts that are coded for reimbursement. You would need to order a test through your doctor for that purpose. We are an education only test (non-diagnostic), so the likelihood of getting reimbursed is slim.

Questions about MaxGen Labs:

Why should I use your lab over the big named labs?

That’s certainly a personal choice, but we have a few unique selling points: 1. We destroy your DNA and don’t share it. 2. We have a simple process and quick turn around time. 3. We personally write each and every report. 4. We offer dietary options in each report.  5. We’re not a corporate lab. We’re just a small operation that strives to make the world a healthier place.

Is your lab CLIA certified?

We contract with CLIA, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, certified labs.

Why don't you provide a phone number on your site?

We are a small company that is owned and operated by practicing clinicians. We work best by email and will respond promptly.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently, we are working directly with practitioners in Canada and the UK. You would need to order through their sites. Contact our help desk for more info - help@maxgenlabs.com.

What is your refund policy?

Due to the nature of our business, the only time refunds will be offered is after two failed attempts to extract the majority of data required. No refunds will be offered based on extended wait times. We do not offer refunds for any other reason.

Do you have coupons or discounts for multiple orders or first time users?

We keep our prices low to begin with, so we do not offer any coupons or discounts.

Can you expedite my order?

No. We ship quickly, so we do not offer overnight options. Also, each sample is processed in a timely fashion. There is no way for us to make the process go faster.

Do you offer advice for supplements?

Currently, we only provide supplement information to patients that work directly with our clinicians. We do partner with a line of high quality supplements should you choose to try some.

How do I get additional help from a doctor?

We have several functional medicine providers on staff. They are happy to set up separate consultations if you wish. There is a separate fee involved. Please contact help@maxgenlabs.com for more information.

Can you write vaccine exemption forms based on genes?

No. We do not write vaccine exemption letters, nor do we discuss vaccinations.

I’m a physician. How can I use your test?

We provide accounts for healthcare providers. Set up an account with our lab, and we will be happy to help your patients! Please fill out the form under the healthcare provider tab, and we will contact you shortly.

Affiliate FAQ's:

Do you offer affiliate accounts?

Yes! If you are a blogger, health entrepreneur, or influencer, you can sign up for a MaxGen Labs affiliate account by clicking the "Affiliate" link in the footer menu. Follow the directions, and you will receive your personalized link to embed in your website.

Do healthcare practitioners with affiliate links get the same benefits as those with regular physician accounts?

No. The affiliate program is hands-off from our customer service perspective. It's an app that allows for internet sales. You are in complete control of how you use it. Affiliates simply share a link and passively watch customers purchase a test. Affiliates do not have access to customer reports. Proper physician accounts require different billing and distribution rules.

When do affiliates get commission?

Commissions are released on the 15th of each month.

Do affiliate accounts close for inactivity?

Yes. After 6 months of inactivity (no views/sales) your account will close.
