How we count genes and variants

We test selected DNA positions in genes and associated regions; this is not whole-gene sequencing. Each named gene is counted once, even when we test multiple variants. A variant ID is counted once across report topics. We do not add extra genes for overlapping annotations or alternate names. The HLA-DQ regional marker is included in the 180 variants, but is not counted as an extra gene.

These totals describe the test's coverage. They are not a count of findings that will be significant for you, and some tested markers may not appear as separate rows in your report.

Every person receives the same Works panel coverage and their own report. Pack size changes the number of people tested, not the genes or variants tested per person.

Does everyone receive their own report?

Yes. Each person receives a separate Works report based on their own sample. Plain-English explanations, visual pathways, and personalized nutrition and lifestyle suggestions are included. See a sample report (PDF).

Can I understand the report on my own?

Yes. Your report is designed for you to read and understand, with plain-English explanations of your genetic findings, visual pathways, and personalized nutrition and lifestyle suggestions. You do not need a practitioner appointment to read your results. If you want extra support, you can choose to share the report with your practitioner.

Is this the same test as the individual Works panel?

Yes. Every person receives the full Works panel, including everything in MaxFunction plus expanded food, nutrition, metabolism, and fitness insights. The Family Pack saves on combined packaging and ordering; it does not reduce the report coverage.

Can we send our samples back separately?

The Family Pack is designed for people who can collect and return their samples together. It includes one box, one requisition form, and one return mailer, with separate swabs and sample vials. If you need separate shipping addresses or separate returns, choose individual Works kits.

How do we keep each person’s sample separate?

Each person uses their own swab and sample vial. Follow the identification and collection instructions in the kit so each sample is matched with the correct person, then return all samples together.

When will our reports be ready?

Average lab turnaround: 5–7 days. Each person receives their own report. Follow the collection and return instructions in your kit to help keep processing on track.

Can we use payment plans or an HSA/FSA card?

Shop Pay payment options are shown beneath the price and at checkout, subject to eligibility and the terms shown by Shop Pay. The Works is HSA/FSA eligible; you can use your HSA or FSA card at checkout.

Can I apply a coupon or adjust a previous order?

Family Pack prices already include the pack savings. This offer is for new orders only, cannot be combined with other coupons, and is not available as a refund or price adjustment on past purchases. Family Packs are available for The Works only.

Is return shipping included?

US orders include one prepaid return label for the combined pack. Canadian and other international orders include return instructions; a prepaid return label is not included.

Is this a diagnostic or food allergy test?

No. The Works explores genetic tendencies for informational and wellness purposes. It does not diagnose disease, test for food allergies, or measure current nutrient or hormone levels. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making medication or treatment changes.

What happens to our samples and data?

Samples are destroyed after processing. Your genetic data is never sold or shared with third parties. Read our privacy policy for details.
